The village of Leitrim enjoys a beautiful water's-edge location at the junction of the River Shannon and the Shannon-Erne Waterway. With the surrounding countryside filled with shimmering lakes, woodlands and wildlife, it's an ideal place to relax and absorb some of Ireland's loveliest scenery. There's superb fishing around these parts, and fresh catches are served at the tables of some award- winning pubs and restaurants in Leitrim. The jetty and marina are attractive village features, only a couple of miles away from the major cruising centre and county town of Carrick-on-Shannon. Here, the spectacular hills and waters of the Carrick golf course offer unforgettable views and a great sporting challenge. Elsewhere in the local area, riding and watersports are popular pastimes. This is obviously wonderful country for walking, along riverside pathways and countryside trails, or through lakelands, or the foothills of the nearby Sliabh An Iarainn mountain, where adventurers may attempt a spot of climbing. Leitrim village provides a tranquil base for visitors exploring the sights of the Upper Shannon and the wider county area, while remaining close to the amenities of the bustling Carrick-on-Shannon. Shoppers might well call into the Leitrim Design House, which exhibits interior designs blending traditional and contemporary craftwork.
