Flintham is a small village in Nottinghamshire which about eight miles south west of the town of Newark-on -Trent. It is on the A46 road close to the RAF Syerston. The village church is dedicated to St Augustine of Canterbury and has a Victorian nave attached to a Norman tower and chancel. The Ham class minesweeper HMS Flintham is named after the village. The Flintham Museum is opening during the summer and sees the life of a rural village through the eyes of a twentieth century shopkeeper. Part of Flintham's Main Street is a listed Conservation Area, which includes a 1935 cast iron telephone kiosk and a total of 38 buildings and structures. The buildings largely use stone for the lower halves of mainly red brick and pantile buildings, which is typical of Nottinghamshire. Nearby is one of Nottinghamshire's great houses, Flintham Hall, which was built mostly by Colonel Hildyard. The Victorian Conservatory there was inspired by Crystal Palace. There is only one pub in the village, The Boot and Shoe Inn, parts of which date back to the 17th century. The Boot and Shoe offers quality ensuite accommodation with tea and coffee making facilities and free wifi internet access in each room.
