Bunbeg - beautifully located on the west coast of Donegal - is a modest but extremely scenic holiday destination with something for everyone. In the village itself, which has more or less merged with neighbouring Derrybeg, visitors are warmly invited to enjoy traditional music sessions in the pubs and fine food in the restaurants, or to browse the locally created arts and crafts goods on sale in the shops, while the surrounding countryside affords plenty of sporting opportunities. These include golf, hill-walking, rock-climbing, horse-riding and bird-watching, and sailing, diving, swimming and fishing. Bunbeg has a tiny, picturesque, sheltered harbour where the River Clady - famously well-stocked with salmon - flows into the sea. There are boat trips to the nearby islands of Tory and Gola, with their unspoilt beaches, bays, and rugged cliffs. Bunbeg is surrounded by hills and mountains, with Mount Errigal, the highest peak, forming an unmistakeable landmark. Also well worth exploring is the gorgeous Glenveagh National Park, which is within easy driving distance and features a castle as well as changing landscapes that take in mountains, hills, woodlands, crystal-clear lakes and peat bogland inhabited by wild red deer. Bunbeg belongs to the Irish-speaking Gweedore district, which boasts a glorious coastline.
