Mallow, situated in the north of Co Cork, is a thriving market town offering guests a memorable mixture of the old and the new. It's also very conveniently located for exploring the beautiful Blackwater Valley - Mallow is the valley's largest town - and for travelling to other parts of the sensationally scenic south-west area of Ireland, since it acts as "the Crossroads of Munster". Mallow originally came to prosperity as a plantation town and then a spa resort, boasting the oldest known warm spring in the country. Today's town has something for everyone, from fine eating and drinking and nightlife to outdoor activities including hiking, riding, angling and golfing, and culture and heritage. Mallow has two castles - the "old castle", which stands on the river bank and is steeped in folklore and ghost stories, and the imposing, privately owned new castle. Nearby is another much-loved landmark, the Mallow Clock House. Its site was once occupied by a building called The Long Room, which was famously frequented by "the Rakes of Mallow", the legendary, wild young men who gathered to indulge a ferocious appetite for wine, women, song and gambling during the spa years of the 18th and 19th Centuries.
