Kinsale is an extremely picturesque coastal town - and the fine dining capital of Ireland. Foodies will be thrilled by dishes of freshly caught fish and seafood and the tasty flavours of locally produced meat and vegetables. It may be fashionably popular, but Kinsale is an historic town with atmospheric, narrow streets, quaint bars and shops, and delightful old buildings that reflect its ancient past and later European influences. The coastal scenery is spectacular, from the rugged cliffs at the Old Head of Kinsale to the town's beautiful natural harbour on the Bandon estuary, filled with yachts and pleasure craft. Kinsale is a major centre for sailing, adventure boating, deep-sea angling and watersports of all kinds, and families will enjoy harbour cruises and whale and dolphin-watching excursions. The wreck of the Lusitania liner, torpedoed in 1915, rests ten miles out to sea. Away from the water, Kinsale offers activities including paintball, riding and golf, rock-climbing, orienteering and walking tours. The town is very keen on arts and culture, with Kinsale Arts Week, a wide-ranging community festival, an important fixture on the calendar. Wine-lovers, meanwhile, should consider visiting the restored Desmond Castle, dating from 1500 and now incorporating the International Museum of Wine
