Liscannor, a bay-side fishing village on the west coast of Ireland, is in itself a delightful destination. But it's also fortunate to be located just a few minutes' drive from one of the country's most breath-taking natural attractions: the mighty Cliffs of Moher. Towering more than 200 metres above a five-mile stretch of the Atlantic coastline, the cliffs are especially enjoyed from the top, where they offer unforgettable views, or by sea, with boat trips available from Liscannor. Visitors are also invited to learn more about the cliffs - and their imposing 19th Century O'Brien's Tower - at the Atlantic Edge exhibition centre, hidden away in an underground cave. En route to the cliffs, it's worth stopping off at St Bridget's holy well, where pilgrims hoping for better fortune leave all manner of religious and everyday objects. Liscannor, with its ancient ruined castle and a 12th Century church, is a wonderfully historic village also offering exceptional fishing and walking. Families will have fun at the Moher Hill Open Farm, complete with animals and nature walks. The nearby village of Lahinch, meanwhile, boasts a famous golf course, a great beach enjoyed by children and surfers alike, and a Seaworld centre.
