The village of Fivemiletown is one of Co Tyrone's most delightful hideaways, a place where visitors come to relax amid inspiring scenery. Set in the lovely Clogher Valley, Fivemiletown is surrounded by miles of unspoilt countryside, including the nearby Fardross Forest, where walkers can enjoy the tranquillity of the river and woodland trails. Just a few miles from the village is the isolated peak of Murley Mountain, home to a large wind farm. This is great fishing country, with anglers arriving to try their luck in the River Blackwater, which rises close to here, or in the various lakes found around the outskirts. Fivemiletown, with its attractive and welcoming main street, has a decent array of village facilities including shops, pubs, hotels, a swimming pool, a bowling green, the Forest Stables for riding enthusiasts and a nine-hole, parkland golf course. One of the most recognisable landmarks is the Victorian station house, commemorating the village's close history with the old Clogher Valley Railway. But its most famous feature now is the Creamery, where traditional Irish cheese is made to this day. Fivemiletown is located in south-west Tyrone, near the border with Fermanagh, and it's therefore also an ideal base for exploring N. Ireland's spectacular lakelands.
