Lisnarick is a small countryside village close to the eastern shores of Lower Lough Erne in Fermanagh's spectacular lake district. At the heart of Lisnarick is its village green, dominated by towering, mature trees. Mainly residential, the village has a few shops selling necessities, and it's an excellent base for anglers, golfers or anyone seeking to escape the rat race for a week or two - with all the conveniences of a large town, Enniskillen, only about ten miles away. Just outside the village lies Castle Archdale Country Park, set in the expansive grounds of the 18th Century Archdale Manor House. The park's attractions include lough-side scenery, woodland and river walks, wildflower meadows, a nature trail, a butterfly garden, wildfowl ponds, a red-deer pen, a Countryside Centre hosting exhibitions, and caravan and camping facilities. The marina offers ferry trips, or boat hire, to visitors wishing to explore the nature reserves and historic buildings of the nearby islands. White Island is famous for some remarkable stone figures set into the wall of a ruined 12th Century church, while Devenish has ancient monastic remains and a small museum. Other popular activities at Castle Archdale including pony-trekking and cycling, with bikes for hire.
