Thame is a market town in the county of Oxfordshire, close to the Chiltern Hills. Notable historic buildings include The Birdcage public house and the Saracen’s Head in the Buttermarket, plus the Greyhound Inn and the 13th Century Church of St Mary's. Near the church is the Bandstand which came from the Wembley exhibition in 1921. The market place has a boat-shaped appearance, and a market has been held there every Tuesday since 1230. The town has varied shopping facilities, along with ample restaurants and pubs and Thame Leisure Centre. The Players Theatre is one of a number of cultural attractions in the town that also includes the Thame Museum. A few minutes walk from Thame town centre, Cuttle Brook Nature Reserve provides 27 acres for rambling, picnics and bird watching. The Phoenix Trail, from Thame to Princes Risborough, is a five mile, traffic-free path that forms part of the expanding Sustrans cycle network. On the third Thursday of September the town stages the Oxfordshire County and Thame Show which is the largest one day agricultural show in Britain. Thame Park, south east of Thame, was a Cistercian Abbey for 400 years. Thame Park and House were sold off in 2000 as a private residence and are currently undergoing renovation.
