Annalong is a lovely fishing village on the south-east coast of Northern Ireland. With a dramatic location at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, it's an ideal spot for holiday-makers who like to relax by the sea, explore diverse and spectacular scenery, or take part in sports: walking, golfing, horse-riding, cycling, hill-walking, mountain-climbing, sailing, diving, surfing and, of course, fishing are all to be enjoyed in or near Annalong. The Marine Park lays on boating opportunities, a park trail and an exhibition, and walkers will enjoy a stroll along the scenic Coastal Path, where a rich variety of sea and bird life can be viewed at close quarters. There's a historic air about Annalong's harbour area with its age-old cottages and houses - and a cornmill. Built in the 1800s, it went on to become one of the country's last working watermills, and in recent years has been restored. The village is adequately provided with shops, pubs and restaurants, although visitors looking for more choice are only seven miles along the coast from Newcastle (north) and Kilkeel (south). The city of Newry, the region's major shopping centre and the "Gateway to the North", is 45 minutes' drive from Annalong.
