St Mary's is the largest of five inhabited Islands in the Isles of Scilly, positioned just off the Cornish Coast, and home to over sixteen hundred people. Whether arriving by plane, boat or helicopter the bewitching views of azure sea, and wide open spaces are rarely forgotten. The sub tropical climate ensures wild flowers and lush woodland. Old Town Bay and Porthcressa beach curves with a gentle sweep, where sugar soft sand is one temptation hard to resist, an invitation to Dive deep into the ocean and discover shipwrecks that lurk beneath is one to eagerly accept. Stroll along coastal paths for glimpses of Puffins and Seals, or venture inland where ancient monuments and the Museum in Hugh Town will uncover past secrets, and the Heritage Centre will definitely entertain. If a maritime adventure is yearned for climb aboard and sail to Tresco for fabulous tropical gardens, St Martins, or Bryer on one of the many boat trips on offer, landlubbers should chose a comfortable spot to watch the World Pilot Gig Racing Championships, and Artists can rummage around one of the Arts and Craft Studios. Five pubs, three churches, and one wish that's always granted.
