Cardiff International Airport is located in Rhoose only 12 miles west of Cardiff City Centre. There are twenty airlines operating to seventy destinations out of one Terminal building. Easily accessed by buses, and trains that operate at hourly intervals between Cardiff Central Station and Rhoose, where a free shuttle bus will journey the short distance to the Airport. Or for passengers driving, exit at Junction 33 on M4, follow the A4232, take the first exit at Culverhouse Cross where the route to the Airport is signposted along the A4050 and A4226. Once at the Airport a choice of short and long stay car parking spaces are on offer, or hotels close by, many of whom offer room and parking deals. The Airport has an interesting history dating back to the 1940’s when Spitfire Pilots were trained for the RAF, and started operating commercially in 1952, since then passenger numbers have increased to 2.1 million in 2007. Once inside the Terminal, the Check In, Baggage Re-Claim are on the ground floor together with Arrivals. The first floor offers a choice of Restaurants, Bars, Departure Gates, and the Departure Lounges. For Business Passengers there is the Exclusive Lounge that has WIFI and telephones available, or if Fax, photocopying or Mini Com service is required there is always the Information Desk also located on the First Floor. Disabled Passengers can be assisted onto the aircraft, use the Induction Loop, borrow a wheelchair, or use dedicated Parking Spaces in the Car Park. There is a choice of shopping from Newsagents, Gifts and snacks, or once in the Departure Lounge a choice of Tax and Duty Free Perfumes, Spirits and Tobacco. Babies and children are catered for with the ever important Nappy Changing facilities, Play Area, and Serendipity Games Zone which is sure to entertain.
